Welcome to my blog

Hi, I'm Kit chief papercrafter from Artesano.LIFE - my blog will feature cards I've made.

By Kit Day, May 9 2017 05:57PM

I have now had two friends whose father's have passed away recently, one was only on Sunday and after a long fight with terminal cancer. He is definitely in a brighter place, although sad for his family.

Today, as with most days at the moment, I have time on my hands. So after some researching on the web, mainly Pinterest, I designed the card below to add to my online shop. I used another stamp set from Stampin' Up!; called Awesomely Artistic, I chose the large floral display to colour in, but this time using a paintbrush to add a personal touch watercolouring using a two-tone technique. I made 4 cards, two with dark red flowers, one with pink and the other with blue.

I used a large paintbrush to add a watercolour wash onto the base of the card and also a small area inside for the sentiment. I used one of my music sheets, aged with an ink brayer. Two die-cut birds from Birds and Blooms were added onto the front of the card to add some dimension. The sentiments were from a stamp set called Heartfelt Sympathy.

I saw a version of this card on Pinterest and decided to make it as it was so pretty and would be a lovely asset to my female birthday cards. I have the addition of a matching tag, so ideal for extending my online shop's USP.

The card uses the flowers and greenery from the Jar of Love set, they were stamped, inked and die cut using the Everyday Jars Framelit dies. Both of these sets come in a bundle, savng 10% off the price.

Inks used for the flowers: sweet sugarplum, rich razzleberry, daffodil delight, bermuda bay and basic black. For the greenery pear pizazz and for the stamped branch old olive. The bee and sentiment were stamped in Basic Black. The initial was die cut from the Large Letters Framelits using black cardstock. Die cutting the flowers was time consuming, but worthwhile.

Other items used:

Pop of Pink Speciality Designer Series Paper

Ribbon (free from recent sale-a-bration event)

Sentiment from Butterfly Basics stamp set

Dragonfly Dreams set for the bumble bee

The tag was made using white cardstock with the top punched out using the Scalloped Tag Top Punch and decorated with left over flowers and another die-cut intial to match the card. The J card has been made for my sister-in law's up and coming birthday.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog

When I first starting with Stampin' Up!, I found that a number of stamp sets that I liked were actually retired and no longer sold by them. I searched regularly on ebay and found a US seller that had this one: Zoo Babies - a fun, lively stamp set with 8 different animals. I have wanted to make some children's cards with this set and tonight after lots of thinking and planning, I have made 4 cards. The longest thing to do was the sentiments, I had a problem fitting the "Look Who's Turning" onto the card circle, so did something else and stamped in onto the embossed base (Polka Dot) instead.

The stamp sets used are: Zoo Babies and Number of Years (for the senitments). All stamps and ink are from Stampin' Up! For the labels I used Stitched Framelits (which give you a stitched look, as per the name) and Layering Circles (for the outer circle on the number cards). I used 7 different coloured ink pads: Night of Navy, Emerald Envy, Tangerine Tango, Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzazz, Soft Suede and Basic Black.

All the highlighted text will direct you direct to my Stampin' Up! online shop which is open 24/7 if you are interested in re-creating the cards yourself - athough Zoo Babies isn't available any more. You will find a number of other stamp sets that would fit, such as Barnyard Babies or Little Cuties.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blogs and wish you all a lovely weekend.

With the arrival of a new stamp set "Swallowtail" from an US ebay seller (althougn it's retired from Stampin' Up), I wanted to test it out and make a couple of cards. I chose 'with sympathy' for this evening's project. Being a large stamp, it was fairly easy to make these cards, so I decided on embossing the butterfly to give it an unique look.

With embossing, you stamp the stamp with a watermark stamp pad called Versamark, this provides an outline on your card. I chose white embossing powder to make the butterfly stand out against the inks I was going to use for the background.

I then used a heat embossing tool which gives a sheen to the emobossed image and sets it. I waited for it to dry (a minute or so), before using a sponge brayer to apply the ink, which adds it behind the image and leaves the butterfly on top (a technique called emboss resist). I used Tempting Turquoise and Pear Pizzazz (lime) applied with the sponge brayer and blended them together. For the sentiment, I used a offcut, inked it the same way and used a stamp set called Window Shopping from the current catalogue. I chose the "Thinking of You" sentiment with the floral motif.

After looking at the card, I felt it needed someting else and chose two stamps from the Butterfly Basics set; a postmark and the dashed line. These and the sentiment were stamped in Crumb Cake (light brown) ink.

I really like the finished cards and hopefully so will any friends who have lost someone close to them.

I have added links to all the products used, which can be bought from my online shop if you're interested. The blue card used is called Pool Party. All my card blanks are from Hobbycraft.

Thanks for reading through my blog, if your interested in buying the stamps or a workshop/party to make cards, please let me know.

Having admired a design seen on Pinterest by another Stampin' Up! demonstrator called Lynn Weiss, I decided to create an Easter card version. I wanted to use one of my favourite sets; Dragonfly Dreams and use Timeless Textures, plus some new sets, which I got for free in the Sale-a- bration promotion. These sets are: Avant Garden and Delicate Details.

I made two versions of this card; one in pink (plum coloured flowers) and the other in blue (yellow flowers). I used the same Easter sentiment - purely as its the only one I have! Added a hint of glitter on each dragonfly so they shimmer in the light.

Inks used:

Pink: Rich Razzleberry, Creamy Caramel, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Sweet Sugarplum, Basic Black

Blue: Tempting Turquoise, Smokey Slate, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Daffodil Delight, Close to Cocoa

All the items can be purchased from my online shop ... let me know if you need any advice. It's definitely not straight forward - I tend to buy the clear mount or photopolymer stamps.

I hope you enjoy reading through my blogs as much as I have enjoyed making these cards .... Kit x
